What a refill pouch taught us about colour

Matching a soft-touch pouch to a glass bottle took four rounds of proofs. Here is what we learned.

Glass carafe with a cork stopper

For Sōma we designed a refill pouch to sit next to a glass bottle. Same colour, same type, completely different materials.

Glass and film print differently

The bottle used a screen-printed white, the pouch a flexographic print on matte film. The same Pantone reference came back three shades apart.

How we fixed it

We stopped chasing a perfect match and adjusted each material until they looked the same on the shelf, under shop lighting, side by side.
